WHY CHOOSE MAIA?
So you are looking around for a psychologist and want to know if we are the right fit for you?
Finding a psychologist can be a difficult process especially if this is the first time you are coming to therapy. By definition you will be sharing with your therapist difficulties, struggles and parts of yourself that you want to work on and this makes you vulnerable.
You want someone you can trust, connect with and who has the knowledge to support you. Please read more about our approach and working with us to see if we are the right fit for you.
Maia creates therapeutic experiences for people to reconnect to themselves, their workplaces and communities.
We exist for open minded people and organisations who want to work with us collaboratively to find creative solutions.
Our focus is on rewiring neurological pathways that get us stuck in unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and doing.
Our vision is for MAIA to grow into a thriving therapeutic and educational community.
We inspire to activate our community to become agents of change in their own lives.
The health of all connections is defined by your connection to self.
Satisfying the basic human need to belong and be included. We want to hear all voices at the table.
Challenging the status quo.
Growth is both a science and an art.
Creating a safe space for people to open up and share their story.
At MAIA we want to change the relationship people have with therapy.
Our purpose is to support our community to find growth opportunities within their own story in order to live and make decisions from the heart that feel good.
We stand against the idea that people need to be "fixed" by treatment and see people as whole, not broken.
HERE ARE A FEW REASONS TO COME
AND SEE US:
Our psychologists are experienced, approachable, warm and easy to get along with.
Our team at MAIA share values (see our approach) that support client wellbeing in a holistic manner while still holding our clinical and professional training at a very high standard.
We support each other as a team and are committed to ongoing professional development in psychology as well as broader areas related to wellbeing.
We acknowledge that you are a diverse group of humans who have unique identities based on unique experiences.
We value creating an accepting, non-judgemental and inclusive environment.
We also acknowledge that the world at large struggles with inclusivity and for some, feeling excluded has been a lived experience.
When you are seeking therapy, safety is often a top priority. Am I safe to share my story? Can I trust this person with parts of myself that I find difficult to share? These are common questions clients will have before a first session.
We aim to create a warm, relaxed and confidential environment for you. What you share with us with stays with us.

DR MEL TAITIMU
I truly believe that if we are going to heal from the past and grow into the future that this is a form of activism. It is a journey of challenging what we have learnt and questioning old beliefs that may not be ours or serve us.
I see you as a whole person, body, mind and spirit. I like to take a holistic view of therapy and often work with other professionals to help restore balance and wellbeing to your life.
I enjoy working collaboratively with clients in a warm, approachable and non-judgemental manner to assist individuals to recognise their strengths, develop resilience and generally enhance wellbeing in their life.
I have always viewed helping people as fulfilling and I find organising rewarding, so that is why I am in an administration/service role. Working for psychologists is pretty great. There is not a more understanding bunch of people to be employed by.
"Our aim is to support you to cope with life's challenges in a conscious, self directed manner to help you realise your full potential."
