"Our sense of worthiness - that critical piece that gives us access to love and belonging - lives inside our story"
So you are looking around for a psychologist and want to know if we are the right fit for you?
Finding a psychologist can be a difficult process especially if this is the first time you are coming to therapy. By definition you will be sharing with your therapist difficulties, struggles and parts of yourself that you want to work on and this makes you vulnerable. You want someone you can trust, connect with and who has the knowledge to support you. Here are a few reasons to come and see us:
Our psychologists are experienced, approachable, warm and easy to get along with. Our team at MAIA share values (see our approach) that support client wellbeing in a holistic manner while still holding our clinical and professional training at a very high standard. We support each other as a team and are committed to ongoing professional development in psychology as well as broader areas related to wellbeing.
When you are seeking therapy, safety is often a top priority. Am I safe to share my story? Can I trust this person with parts of myself that I find difficult to share? These are common questions clients will have before a first session. We aim to create a warm, relaxed and confidential environment for you. What you share with us with stays with us. At MAIA Psychological Services, we are bound by the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics and value your privacy.
We acknowledge that you are a diverse group of humans who have unique identities based on unique experiences. We value creating an accepting, non-judgemental and inclusive environment. We also acknowledge that the world at large struggles with inclusivity and for some, feeling excluded has been a lived experience. We meet you where you are at in your life, relationships and circumstances. We understand your story is unique and look forward to connecting with you in our sessions.
Central location and welcoming environment
We just love our little office and location and we think you will too. We have tried to create a physical environment that is non-clinical, warm and inviting while still maintaining privacy. MAIA Psychological Services is close to public transport with plenty of parking in the vicinity. We are right next door to Commune Café so you can have a coffee and a bite before or after sessions (and we can spend all of our money on yummy food and smoothies all week). For those connecting online, we still aim to provide a warm experience in creative ways like using multimedia resources during sessions.
At MAIA, you will not only have access to individual sessions but we will also be offering group sessions, masterclasses, events and online programmes. MAIA also has well established links with community initiatives and forums to support your overall wellbeing.
